Avatar in real life :)

January 17, 2010

Pretty interesting post by Sara Sidner (CNN) about villagers fighting a big corp.
Only difference is that “Toruk Makto” is not Sam Worthington but a 75-year old Grandmother of three
I wish them luck!

Vote! India Vote!

April 14, 2009

In the upcoming 2009 General Elections, most of the political front-runners are not representative of India’s population. In a nutshell, they are old and disconnected with the global populace. Ignorance is bliss! Age bestows a sense of entitlement to some of them.
This is not to disparage their age – but more their reluctance to learn [...]

Some days, Marcus Aurelius makes a whole lot of sense…

October 4, 2008

Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, in an interview with Fareed Zakaria, talked about his passion for reading philosophy and particularly Marcus Aurelius – the stoic philosopher.
I went out to Amazon and bought a copy of ‘Meditations’ – a modern interpretation of it by Gregory Hayes.
Here’s a quote:
Begin each day by telling yourself: Today I shall be [...]

Abhinav Wins India 1st Individual Gold in Beijing 2008!!

August 11, 2008

Abhinav Bindra just made history for our country by winning India’s first individual Olympic Gold medal. He beat Zhu Qinan of China 700.5-699.7. Jai Hind!!!
This is awesome and may it be the first of many to come in this century. We may not have the most focused sports program on earth, but we certainly have [...]

Prediction: Olympics – Mumbai 2036

August 7, 2008

So, with all the hoopla around making Cricket an Olympic sport by 2020 (Twenty20 in 2020, get it?) I figured we could concieve of a theoretical scenario where, 16 years after the sport is reinstated by the IOC (1900), Mumbai hosts the Olympic games for the first time.
Just like Beijing in 2008, this is Mumbai’s [...]

Moving Indian Manufacturing Ahead.

July 27, 2008

Another subject that intrigues me is foreign policy & geo-political trends. Particularly when it comes to the interesting battle for Asian supremacy between China & India as the 21st century unfolds. At this point, China appears to be comfortably ahead on infrastructure, resource brokering, population control, GDP & Purchasing Power (PP). India appears to be [...]

The Genius of Nature.

July 22, 2008

Pretty amazing video. Most of the video is true…

I always wondered who the 3rd guy in the video is, turns out it is George Adamson – the “Father” of the Lion conservation movement. That explains his affinity with the lions.
Oh, and if you find the music corny, use the mute button!
The interesting thing is that [...]

Bright Spark.

July 21, 2008

People like Chandrakant Patel make you proud to be part of a country powered by knowledge.
Great video that really focuses on some of the pressing constraints in data center design and what HP is doing to overcome it. What impressed me was Mr. Patel’s distilled delivery of a singular vision.
Practical to the core, he sees [...]

Indian IT Majors – Stir that pot.

July 17, 2008

So, finally, after triple digit growth, yearly staff doubling, billion+++ revenues, the larger IT services providers in India are showing signs of hitting a wall with their growth.
I can’t speak for the whole industry – I haven’t been exposed enough to all the large providers to generalize. But the one I did work with (shall [...]
