Simon Peyton Jones & Microsoft Research Cambridge
September 27, 2008
Creator of the Haskell language. One in a billion.
He really is in a league of his own.
I have to say, the Microsoft Research Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts is putting together a serious portfolio of intellectual capital to say the least. Christian Borgs, Jennifer Chayes, Danah Boyd & Simon Peyton Jones alone are worth the price of entry into M$ land. Simon is in Cambridge, UK – not MA as I wrongly assumed.
Now all they need is a Steve Jobs-like person to thread it all together and channel all those ideas into something meaningful for society. This is probably the most difficult ‘phase transition’ of all to accomplish and a very rare skill indeed. *hint* *hint*

Actually, I don’t know about the others, but SPJ is at MS Research in Cambridge, UK (i.e. the original Cambridge), not Cambridge, MA.
Massachusetts?
Agreed. I got confused by the double Cambridge angle. Sorry readers. The other 3 mentioned are at the new Cambridge, MA location.
SPJ remains in Cambridge, UK. The UK MSR location has been active since 1997. Post has been corrected as well.
Well, MSR Cambridge also hosts brilliant people, including Tony Hoare, Luca Cardelli, Nick Benton, SPJ…
